I have so many different types of shoes than I’m always wondering about what kind of socks to wear with boots, or loafers, gym shoes. For the longest time, I just wore the same socks with everything, but other than looking a bit silly at times, not all socks are comfortable with all shoes.
Does it matter what socks I wear with different shoes?
If you wear thin Lycra socks with some timberland boots, you’re gonna feel that in your toes by the end of the day. You also can’t wear boot socks with your gym shoes. Some socks are specially made, like those toe socks, but then there are just best practices.

For loafers, I like wearing a classic cotton dress sock. I usually go with black, and I will get a multipack with different patterns on the socks, some plain in case I need it to match an outfit.
I do like the fabric to be stretchy though, I don’t like it when a cotton sock loses its stretch and ends up falling down all the time.

For me, the best boot sock depends on the time of the year and the type of boot. In the winter you want to have warmer, thicker sock. In the summer you want something lighter.
I have worked in construction, done security and been on my feet all day and night. I have tried so many different types of boot socks. For me, the best boot sock without a doubt is the CAT cushioned crew socks.
When he weather is a little warmer though, I go for the Dickie’s Dri-Tech moisture control socks. It might seem like I am just going for brand name, but it’s not the case.
There is a reason those names are well respected among the working man. They really do make very high quality clothes for a very good price. I have tried no brand, bought from smaller brands, but none of them stand up to these socks for boots.

When considering what kind of socks are good for hiking, you have to go with something durable, moisture wicking, and is comfortable to wear for long periods of time.
I really like these socks for hiking boots, becuase they have padding in all the right places, and on the front park where your ankle touches the laces. I tie my boots tight, and the tongue would always dig in a little, but these socks stop that.
My daughters prefer the Dickie boot socks though. They come in more colors, and they dont get much durable, the brand speaks for itself.

I like to wear wide Vans, I don’t like my toes to be bunched up. With tighter fitting shoes I always wear fitted socks, but with my vans I wear thicker cotton/polyester socks.
If I wear a sock thats too thin, my feet move around in the space and rub up on the fabric, then they get sore. If you wear fitted Vans I would go for an ankle height breathable sock. If you wear looser shoes like me, go for something with a little more padding.

This one came up right at the top of the list because my daughters wear them. Hey dudes ten to have a wider opening, so the ankle moves around a lot and socks can wiggle down. The best socks for Hey Dudes based on their experiences are the no show ankle socks with a rubber grip.
These socks are very breathable, made from long stapled cotton and have a patch of silicone in the back where the heel is to stop the sock from slipping down into the shoe.

If you have walked around a lot in converses, you know your feet can get sore. The fabric of Converse shoes doesn’t really wick sweat that well. You also don’t want a sock to move around too much, it’s a pain to have to unlace your shoes to adjust your sock.
My favorite socks to wear with high top converse are compressions socks. But because converse shoes are flat, these socks also have arch support, they dont move and they are moisture wicking.

I work out in my socks a lot, I prefer it for my ankle stability. I also use gym showers ¨with slippers on¨, and there have been times where I have had athletes foot. You can put talc in your shoes, do your best to keep your feet dry, but you need to have the right socks.
My favorite socks to keep my feet dry are a type of sports sock. The whole sock is moisture wicking, but these sock have a bit of material under the toes and ball of the feet that are a little thicker.
It absorbs more moisture, and dries really quick, and these are the parts that are usually the most damp. Even while I’m working out, the socks never feel wet like cotton socks and they are very durable.
What kind of socks do you wear with clogs
Wearing socks with clogs may seem a bit odd, but if you have sweaty feet or are in a humid climate, they can rub up on your feet and make it uncomfortable.
A pair of low ankle socks are pretty good to wear with clogs. I don’t wear clogs myself, so this suggestion comes directly from my daughters. These are the socks they like to wear with clogs.
What kind of socks to wear with sandals
So up until a few months ago, if you asked me this I would say the best socks to wear with slippers or sandals were the standard white Nike crew socks. But then I came across these split toe socks made just for slippers and sandals with the toe separator. Of you are wearing slippers without the toe separator, I still maintain the plain white Nike socks are the best option.
