As a tall man myself, I have always had an interest in the towering height humans can get to. I am 6’3 (193cm) and the tallest in my family, but I have friends and relatives that are a lot taller than me, so I always wanted to know who the tallest man in the world is, or who the tallest basketball player is to know how tall a person can really get.
Many of us are fascinated with this subject, and the world has always been fascinated with height. You will see this in the Giunness world records every year, there will be news articles about tall people in sports. We are all aware to some degree that there is something that draws your attention when you encounter a tall person.
In this article, I want to let you know who the current tallest men in the world are. Who are the tallest men in sports, and a few honorary mentions of some truly remarkable specimens that have lived and still are with us.
So before we get to the rest, it only makes sense to start with the tallest man ever recorded in history,
Who are the tallest people in the world?
The tallest man in the world ever
The tallest human ever recorded was Robert Ludlow. He was born in the USA in Alton, Illinois in 1918 and at His peak He measured an impressive 8 feet 11.1 inches, that’s 2.72 Meters. Unfortunately due to His height the body was under a lot of strain, and Robert Ludlow died at the young age of 22. He still holds the Guinness world record (https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/records/hall-of-fame/robert-wadlow-tallest-man-ever) for being the tallest man to ever live.
Robert Ludlow was actually born a normal sized baby weighing 8.7 lb, but by the age of 5 he already measured a staggering 5 feet and 4 inches, well on his way to being the tallest man in the world. By age 17 he was over 8 feet tall and had already developed a number of medical issues related to the pituitary gigantism that He was diagnosed with.
Although His height causes a number of health problems, Robert Ludlow actually died of a blister that had turned septic. A brace fitted to his leg to help with his stability had been incorrectly adjusted, causing the blister that later caused the tallest man in the world to die.
Robert Ludlow is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in His home town of Alton. As you can imagine, the coffin is pretty large, measuring 3.28m x 81cm x 76cm in depth !

4- Zhang Juncai
Zhang Junca is also from China, and measures 7 feet and 11 inches 243cm. He is one of the tallest living people in the world, and was born in 1983 in Henan province. By the age of 16 he was already a towering 6’7. It has been said that Zhang has found it difficult to adjust to everyday life, and find a normal job so He works as a farmer in his town. But various interviews and tv appearances have been a way for Zhang to supplement His income.
5- Sun Mingming
Sun Mingming is a professional basketball player from China, and an actor well known for being one of the tallest people in the world. He was born in 1983 in Bayan County in China. He measures an impressive 7 feet and 9 inches (236cm). And has also been the owner of the tallest basketball player in the world title.
Sun Mingming was discovered by a coach from the University of California and played there for a while. He then moved on to play for a number of basketball teams in China, and even had a stint in 2011 playing with the Harlem Globetrotters. He now mostly makes appearances in films, and even had a small role in the “Transformers: Age of Extinction” movie.
6- Bao Xishun
Bao Xishun like most people that are very tall, had a stint playing basketball, but is probably more known now as being one of the tallest living men that makes His living as a herdsman. He was born in 1962 in Mongolia, China and measures 7 feet and 8.95 inches (236cm).
He gained fame for being the tallest man alive back in 2005, recognized by the Guinness book of record as such, but was surpassed a couple of years later.
7- Radhouane Charbib
Radhouane Charbib is another basketball player on the list of the tallest people coming in at 7 feet and 8.5 inches tall (235cm).
8- Rumeysa Gelgi
Rumeysa Gelgi was recognized as the tallest teenager in the world by the Guinness book of Records in 2014. She was born in 1997 in Safranbolu, Turkey and measured 7 feet 9 inches (236cm) by Her 16th birthday. This also makes Her one of the tallest people in the world.
Her height is caused by a medical condition called Weaver syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that causes a growth and development defect. She is very active on social media, and uses Her fame to bring awareness to Weaver syndrome.
